Website in a Weekend – Really.
Well, a holiday weekend. We got the idea to build a website as a gift for a friend’s birthday – on Friday. We tweaked it this morning – just needs a ribbon.
Part of the idea is to get the birthday person’s friends and colleagues to enter their best wishes in the comments area of the opening blog post. So, we were eager to get it done so we could advance our idea to launch the site as a real “living” entity. The birthday is next Saturday.
Although the idea came up at our Friday morning coffee vacation, we didn’t get to work on it until Saturday. Because this is a teacher website, we had to do some research – we’ve never done anything like this before. I jotted some notes and we talked it through during our Saturday afternoon coffee vacation.
We built the site together on Sunday. Because I had been unable to find a suitable theme that worked the way I wanted it to, Joyce built a theme from scratch – or almost. I uploaded the architecture and content; Joyce set up the theme and plugins. We worked on the header together – which was fun.
After Monday morning coffee vacation, we both sat down to finish up. Joyce had a little mishap that created a setback, but we were still finished moving and adding images and links before lunch.
The point is, it can be done in a weekend. Yes, a website in a weekend. We didn’t slack on our normal to-do’s – we were able to fit it into the context of the weekend. So, without distractions and with our full support, we know you can do it too. And, isn’t it wonderful to know that you have this within your power?
We learned quite a bit. For one, we like working with totally invisible customers! For another, we seem to be able to come up with yet another new use for a website. Mostly, we enjoyed working together on behalf of someone we care about – that’s the real blessing!
